VDZ Publishers‘ Summit

Kontrapunkt was once again privileged to organise the VDZ Publishers’ Summit, the congress of the VDZ (Association of German Magazine Publishers) on 04 November. New this year was the location: the „Umspannwerk Alexanderplatz“, centrally located in Berlin.

Be it freedom of opinion, freedom of the press or entrepreneurial freedom – in moving speeches by e.g. Annalena Baerbock (Federal Chairwoman of Bündnis 90/the Green Party), Armin Laschet (Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia) and Philipp Welte (Chairman of the VDZ and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hubert Burda Media Verlagsgesellschaft), these topics were in the spotlight and were also intensively discussed by the more than 300 participants.

VDZ Publishers‘ Night

The following VDZ Publishers’ Night was again staged by Kontrapunkt this year. As every year, the award ceremony took place with around 800 guests at Deutsche Telekom’s representative office in Berlin-Mitte. At the Publishers’ Night, the „Golden Victoria“ for President of the Bundestag Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble- and the „Golden Victoria for freedom of the press“ for “Reporters Without Borders” were awarded. Very moving laudations were given by Christine Lagarde (President of the European Central Bank) and Jan Josef Liefers.

“On this evening of 4 November 2019, the Publishers’ Night 2019 set a sign for freedom in Germany, Europe and the world,” said VDZ President Dr. Rudolf Thiemann.

The gala was musically accompanied by “The Young ClassX” choir with an interpretation of the song “Freiheit” by Marius Müller-Westernhagen and the self-composed piece “Worte brauchen Freiheit”.
