“Rotary opens opportunities” is this year’s motto for Rotarians worldwide, issued by the first German world president in the history of the service organization.

The implementation of the motto on a national level took place at the conference of the northernmost German district in June 2020, for the first time as a streaming event implemented as a ZOOM webinar from the studio of our partner CARL Group.

During the almost three-hour transmission, various items of the programme such as the annual reports of the departments, greetings, minutes of commemoration, relay handovers and honours were presented in a varied manner and never caused boredom.

Interesting programme

In advance, Kontrapunkt had adapted the content for all programme items to the streaming format: whether a poem about Northern Germany during the participants’ onboarding process, green screen backgrounds for discussion rounds, charts for voting processes or the background music for breaks, transitions and thematic reports. For all these programme items, the protagonists were made camerafit in the streaming studio through extensive rehearsals in the run-up to the event.

The activities on the feedback channel were woven into the live format by Kontrapunkt through an editor and created interaction and a feeling of togetherness between guests and actors.

Streaming – The new format of the future?

In the end, the audience interest was even significantly greater than at the previous face-to-face events. Despite Corona, an opportunity was boldly seized and now consideration is being given to making streaming “THE” new format for the district conferences of the future. We are curious!
